Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Brazil, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and the elevation of their partnership to a community with a shared future for a more just world and a sustainable planet, represents a significant milestone in bilateral relations and carries profound implications for global peace and development, according to representatives from various sectors in Brazil.
President Xi arrived in Brasilia on Tuesday for a state visit to Brazil after attending the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The visit also marked his first trip to Brazil in five years.
"The bilateral meeting between President Lula and President Xi Jinping will define the next steps to further deepen strategic mutual trust and align the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil's industrialization and infrastructure development projects. I believe President Xi Jinping's visit marks a significant milestone in the 50 years of development in China-Brazil relations," said Marcio Pochmann, president of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
"Brazil and China are important trade partners for each other, and the two countries have also engaged in excellent cooperation in infrastructure and energy investment," said Thiago Barral, Secretary of Energy Transition and Planning at Brazil's Ministry of Energy and Mines.
People from various sectors in Brazil emphasized that Brazil-China cooperation will significantly advance global governance toward greater fairness and equity, contributing meaningfully to the pursuit of human peace and progress.
"Although Brazil and China are separated by a long distance, they share similar values of fair, equitable, and inclusive development. The friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade, diplomacy, and politics also contribute to the development of the Global South and the world at large," said Pedro Duval, International Advisor to the National Youth Secretariat.
"President Xi's trip to Latin America is of great significance, beginning with the opening of Chancay Port, deepening trust between China and Latin America, and marking a new chapter in China-Latin America relations," said Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, head of the Center for Brazil-China Studies at the Getulio Vargas Foundation School of Law.
