The combined profit of major industrial enterprises went down 4.3 percent year on year in the January-October period, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.
Industrial firms above designated size, or those with an annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan (about 2.81 million U.S. dollars), saw their combined profits total over 5.86 trillion yuan (about 689 billion U.S. dollars) during the 10 months. Their business revenue stood at 110.96 trillion yuan (about 15.3 trillion U.S. dollars), up by 1.9 percent year on year.
In October, the total profit of major industrial enterprises saw a narrowing decrease of 10 percent compared with the same period of last year.
From January to October, the total profits of state-holding enterprises was over 1.85 trillion yuan, down by 8.2 percent year on year. The profits of share-holding enterprises surpassed 4.37 trillion yuan, down by 5.7 percent. The profits of enterprises invested by foreign investors and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan enterprises totaled over 1.45 trillion yuan, up by 0.9 percent year on year. The profits of private enterprises dipped 1.3 percent to more than 1.65 trillion yuan.
In the first 10 months, the total profits of mining industry reached 984.53 billion yuan, down by 12.7 percent. The manufacturing industries declined 4.2 percent year on year to a bit more than 4.22 trillion yuan. The production of electricity and heat, as well as gas and water supply industries realized a total profit of 661.2 billion yuan, up 11.5 percent.

Chinese President Xi Jinping extended congratulations to a UN meeting held on Tuesday to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Xi noted that the question of Palestine is the core of the conflict in the Middle East and concerns international fairness and justice.
Xi said that the pressing task for the Palestinian question is to comprehensively and effectively implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions to end the war as soon as possible and de-escalate tensions in the region.
The fundamental way out is to implement the two-state solution and promote the political settlement of the Palestinian question, so as to establish an independent State of Palestine that enjoys full sovereignty based on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital, and realize Palestinian people's right to survival, statehood and return, Xi said.
Xi said that China has always been a staunch supporter of the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate national rights, and has always supported all Palestinian factions to strengthen unity, implement the Beijing declaration on ending division and strengthening Palestinian national unity, and achieve internal reconciliation.
Xi noted that China firmly supports Palestine's full membership in the United Nations, and supports a more broad-based, authoritative and effective international peace conference.
Xi said that China will continue to work with the international community to jointly end the fighting and killing, support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in continuing to provide humanitarian assistance to the people in Gaza, bring the question of Palestine back to the right track of the two-state solution, and seek an early resolution that is comprehensive, just and durable.
