Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks with Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli in Beijing on Tuesday.

Calling the two countries traditional friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, Li said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries nearly 70 years ago, China-Nepal relations have maintained sound and steady development. In 2019, in particular, the bilateral relationship was elevated to the strategic cooperative partnership featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity, which has driven vigorous expansion of exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two sides, and which has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. Li said China is willing to work with Nepal to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue to consolidate and deepen political mutual trust, push for the deeper development of relations and cooperation, and build an even closer China-Nepal community with a shared future.

China firmly supports Nepal in exploring a development path suited to its national conditions, and stands ready to enhance the synergy of development strategies with Nepal, leverage the leading role of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation in bilateral cooperation, actively expand two-way trade and investment, and strengthen connectivity of ports, roads, railways and airlines, Li said.

He said China encourages competent Chinese enterprises to invest in Nepal and is willing to import more quality products from Nepal.

Li said the two sides need to deepen people-to-people exchanges and sub-national cooperation.

China supports Nepal in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Nepal on multilateral arenas, Li said.

Oli said Nepal's determination to abide by the one-China principle will not waver, and it will not allow any force to use Nepal's territory for anti-China activities. Nepal believes that Taiwan and Xizang are inalienable parts of China and Xizang-related affairs are China's internal affairs, he said.

Nepal has always regarded China as a reliable partner and is willing to take the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries next year as an opportunity to further strengthen high-level exchanges with China, consolidate traditional friendship, promote practical cooperation in various fields, jointly cope with common challenges and strengthen coordination on multilateral affairs, he said. After the talks, Li and Oli jointly witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents on economy, technology and trade.

Before the talks, Li hold a welcome ceremony for Oli, during which a military band played the national anthems of Nepal and China, and Li accompanied Oli to review the Guard of Honor of the People's Liberation Army.

Members of the Security Council must come together and take concrete actions to push for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to safeguard the rights and interests of women impacted by the relentless war in the strip, a Chinese envoy to the UN said on Tuesday.

At a Security Council meeting on "Women, Peace, and Security", China's Permanent Representative to the UN Fu Cong pointed out that, currently, over 600 million women and girls in the world are suffering from wars and conflicts, especially in Gaza. The ongoing war there has resulted in over 44,000 Palestinian deaths, 70 percent of whom are women and children.

Fu urged the Security Council to move beyond empty political slogans and take concrete and meaningful actions to address the situation, calling for a ceasefire as the immediate priority to protect women's rights and interests in Gaza.

"If the Security Council fails to take action to ensure women's safety, its discussions will be seen as nothing more than empty rhetoric for women suffering in war zones. We once again urge all Security Council members to unite, uphold the authority of the Council's mechanisms and resolutions, and support the Council in taking strong action to secure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and restore peace," said Fu.

Fu also emphasized China's commitment to fostering a peaceful environment for women's development and its active support for women's causes globally. He noted that all countries share responsibility in promoting the "Women, Peace, and Security" agenda and safeguarding women's rights.
