China congratulates John Dramani Mahama on his election as president of Ghana, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Thursday.
Mao Ning, the spokeswoman, made the statement at a regular press briefing in Beijing after Ghana's Electoral Commission on Sunday declared Mahama the winner of the 2024 presidential election.
"China congratulates Mr. Mahama on his election as president of Ghana. Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a congratulatory message to President-elect Mahama. We believe that under the leadership of President Mahama, Ghana will make greater achievements in national construction and development," said Mao.
"Ghana is an important strategic partner of China in Africa. The friendship between the two countries has a long history and will stand the test of time and grow from strength to strength. In recent years, relations between the two countries have developed steadily and their practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results. Next year, the two countries will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. China is willing to work with the new government of Ghana to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, continuously enhance political mutual trust, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and promote the in-depth development of strategic partnership between China and Ghana to better benefit the two peoples," said the spokeswoman.
