The development of friendly relations between China and Russia is a logical outcome of history and is driven by strong internal force, said Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Chairman of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev in Beijing.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 75 years ago, China and Russia have blazed a new path featuring mutual respect, harmonious coexistence and win-win cooperation between major countries and neighbors, setting a new model of international relations and relations between neighboring major countries, said Xi.
According to Xi, China is willing to work with Russia to strengthen the alignment of development strategies, tap the internal driving force of bilateral cooperation, and bring more benefits to the two countries and their peoples.
"Nice to meet you again, Mr. Medvedev. You are also an old friend of mine. This year, President Putin and I have met three times and reached a lot of new consensus. China and Russia are each other's biggest neighbor. Developing friendly relations between our two countries is a logical outcome of history and driven by strong internal force. Not long ago, President Putin and I exchanged congratulatory messages on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries, making top-level designs and strategic plans for the development of China-Russia relations in the coming period. It is believed that our exchanges today will further consolidate and strengthen the trust and cooperation between our two Parties and our two countries," said Xi.
For his part, Medvedev highlighted the good relationship between the two countries and the two heads of state.
"Honorable comrade Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and president of the People's Republic of China, I am very pleased to visit China on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. There is a Chinese idiom, 'Similar sounds resonate with each other, and similar scents blend together', which I believe perfectly explains the sound relationship between our two countries and between our two heads of state," he said.
