Shandong aircraft carrier has been honing its victory-winning skills in far-sea operations as the first domestically designed and built aircraft carrier celebrated its fifth anniversary of its commissioning. The commissioning of Shandong aircraft carrier marked China's entry into the era of domestically built aircraft carriers. Faced with this brand-new equipment, the crew of the Shandong started from scratch, exploring uncharted territory and accumulating data step by step.

As an essential indicator of an aircraft carrier's combat capability, the efficiency of carrier-based aircraft deployment can tilt the odds of victory with every second saved.

In recent years, Shandong aircraft carrier has continuously enhanced its aviation support capacity through strategies such as multi-skill training, streamlining personnel to increase efficiency, and optimizing team formations.

By doing so, J-15, China's first fixed-wing carrier-based fighter which dubbed the "flying shark," are now launching at faster speeds, with higher frequencies and on a larger scale than ever before.

"Compared to the time when it was first commissioned, our carrier's aircraft launch support time has now been reduced by a quarter. Last year, our carrier recorded the highest number of aircraft launches, and this year, we have maintained this upwards momentum and is continuously setting new records," said Zeng Wenhui, sailor of Shandong aircraft carrier.

With a large number of new equipment being commissioned, the combat capability of Shandong aircraft carrier strike group continues to advance to new heights.

"Recently, we conducted joint air superiority combat drills, during which new-generation fighter jets extended their detection and strike range through aerial refueling. At the same time, with the joining of new missile destroyers, our strike group's capabilities for surface and land attacks, as well as air defense and missile interception, have become more diversified. This has further enriched our combat approaches and significantly enhanced the comprehensive operational capability of the entire group," said Xiao Chuanyu, sailor from Shandong aircraft carrier.

TikTok requests US Supreme Court to block ban on its US operations

2024-12-17 16:57 Last Updated At:17:07

TikTok, an online video entertainment platform, on Monday requested the United States Supreme Court to temporarily halt the forced sale order issued by the U.S. government against the platform.

TikTok is asking the Court to do what it has traditionally done in free speech cases: apply the most rigorous scrutiny to speech bans and conclude that it violates the First Amendment, according to TikTok. On April 24th, U.S. President Joe Biden signed a bill demanding that ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok headquartered in Beijing, sell TikTok to a non-Chinese buyer within 270 days or else be banned from use in the U.S.

The banning of the platform would result in a massive and unprecedented censorship of over 170 million Americans on January 19, 2025. Estimates show that small businesses on TikTok would lose more than 1 billion U.S. dollars in revenue and creators would suffer almost 300 million U.S. dollars in lost earnings in just one month unless the ban is halted, said TikTok.

On May 7th, TikTok filed a lawsuit seeking to block this bill, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit rejected the appeal on December 6th.

Gary Clyde Hufbauer, a nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, said that there is no evidence to suggest that TikTok engages in surveillance activities and stressed that many U.S. policies are highly politicized.
