China urged certain politicians in the U.S. to stop distorting facts, spreading false information, or discrediting China's drug control efforts, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
Lin made the statement in response to a media query after U.S. lawmakers have proposed three bills aimed at China's role in the fentanyl crisis with measures that would set up task force to counterattack trafficking and pave ways for sanctions on Chinese entities.
"China strongly opposes some U.S. politicians who distort facts, spread false information, and discredit China's drug control efforts. In terms of counter-narcotics, China has the strongest determination, the most relentless policy and one of the best records in the world. China has scheduled the largest number of substances and has the strictest drug control in the world. Everyday, China's counter-narcotics authorities fight the illicit diversion of precursor chemicals in strict accordance with law and make sure that relevant companies do their business in accordance with the laws and regulations," said the spokesman.
"The true cause of the pervasive drug problem in the U.S. lies within the country itself, who is also the one holding the key to the issue. We urge certain politicians in the U.S. to face squarely to its own issues, adopt more substantial measures to strengthen domestic regulation of the narcotics and reduce domestic demand, rather than seeking to deflecting blame on other countries," he continued.
