A Chinese envoy to the United Nations on Friday once again called on the international community to advance the two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN, made the call as Israel in recent days resumed military operations in Gaza, upending a two-month ceasefire.
Speaking at a Security Council meeting on the Palestinian-Israeli issue at the UN headquarters, Fu said the resumption of fighting in Gaza has sparked international concerns and that Israeli military operations and aid blockade are exacerbating the humanitarian disaster in the enclave.
China believes that only a lasting ceasefire, not resumption of hostilities, in Gaza can solve the hostage issue, Fu said, urging Israel to immediately cease its military offensive, lift the blockade, and push for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
Fu also underscored that escalation has persisted in the West Bank, with Israel expanding settlements, demolishing houses, and conducting frequent military campaigns in the territory, which has led to the displacement of a large number of Palestinians.
"China reiterates that implementing the 'two-state solution' is the only viable way to resolve the Palestinian question. The international community should intensify efforts to push for the 'two-state solution' through diplomacy and provide strong guarantee for it. China supports the Gaza recovery and reconstruction plan jointly initiated by Egypt and other Arab states, and supports the principle of 'the Palestinians governing Palestine' in the rebuilding process. China opposes forced displacement of the people of Gaza and any attempts to annex Gaza and the West Bank," he said.
