Over 4,100 brands to explore fresh opportunities at Consumer Products Expo

The 5th China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE), scheduled from April 13 to 18, has brought together over 4,100 brands from around the globe, all vying for a slice of China's vast consumer market.

Held in south China's Hainan Province, the event marks the country's first major international expo of the year and is the only state-level exhibition focused on consumer goods.

Spanning over 160,000 square meters, the 5th CICPE has attracted exhibitors from 71 countries and regions, covering emerging sectors such as digital consumption, health products, and green consumption.

For the first time, the expo has designated Beijing as its "guest province or city," with the capital's pavilion doubling in size compared to last year. The number of participating Beijing-based companies has also grown from 20 to 32.

The international lineup includes returning exhibitors from countries such as the UK, France, and Switzerland, who are broadening their presence, while newcomers from countries including Slovakia, Brazil, and Singapore will make their debut with national and corporate pavilions.

"The CICPE boosts our product visibility. Following last year's event, we started receiving a steady stream of purchase orders," said Zhang Wei, representative of an Australian brand.

"Through years of participation, we've strengthened cooperation with various brands. At this year's expo, our new products will make their Asian debut, and this platform will contribute to their subsequent marketing," said Wei Siwen, representative of a Swiss brand.

For the first time in its history, the expo will feature zones dedicated to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and low-altitude economy in its No. 1 exhibition hall, where over 20 leading global companies will showcase innovations such as humanoid robots, flying cars, and digital consumer products and services.

Highlighting the 'debut economy', this year's expo has attracted 65 Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders, a record high. As the guest country of honor, the UK occupies over 1,300 square meters of exhibition space with 53 participating brands, showcasing products across fashion, beauty, home furnishings, health tech, and outdoor equipment sectors.

"We also have some new friends this year, such as Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Singapore, which is bringing its first-ever group of companies to the expo. Product premieres and debuts have always been one of our key features. This year, in our welcoming hall, about 20 companies will release over 40 new products," said Zeng Rong, chief economist and spokesperson of the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development.

The event also promises enhanced financial services for foreign exhibitors to facilitate transactions.

"We have introduced foreign currency exchange machines and are offering global financial services to help international participants better understand China's existing financial policies and offerings, providing them with more convenient localized services," said Huang Yefeng, president of Bank of Communications Hainan Branch.

UNCTAD members oppose unilateralism, trade protectionism

      2025-04-16 16:24 Last Updated At:16:37

Members of the Trade and Development Board of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), at a meeting in Geneva on Tuesday, voiced their opposition to unilateralism and trade protectionism, expressing concern over the current tensions in global trade, and over the negative impacts of tariff abuses and trade frictions on developing countries, particularly the least developed countries.

Addressing the special meeting focused on economic development in Africa, Ambassador Chen Xu, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, stated that the United States has imposed tariffs unilaterally, triggering worldwide trade tensions, with escalating trade conflicts increasingly impacting Africa and other regions.

Chen said that the U.S. abuse of tariffs as a means of exerting maximum pressure and pursuing its selfish interests is a clear example of unilateralism, protectionism, and economic coercion. He cautioned that these actions would significantly obstruct the socioeconomic progress of developing countries, including those in Africa, and undermine global efforts to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Chen highlighted that UNCTAD members are both participants in and beneficiaries of economic globalization. An open, fair, and stable international economic and trade order aligns with the collective interests of all. He called on all parties to uphold true multilateralism, foster solidarity and cooperation, speak with a unified voice, and resolutely defend a rules-based multilateral trading system to guide globalization in the right direction.

China's statement resonated widely among participants. The representatives of many countries echoed the call to uphold multilateralism, back the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, and oppose unilateralism and trade protectionism, in order to create an international economic environment conducive to sustainable development and shared prosperity.
