Chinese films grabbed the limelight at the 77th Cannes Film Festival which was held from May 14 to 25 in Cannes, southern France, with "She's Got No Name" making its premiere on Friday.
Led by Peter Ho-Sun Chan, the Hong Kong-born director and the leading actors Zhang Ziyi and Lei Jiayin, the cast of film "She's Got No Name" appeared at the red carpet, greeting to the media and fans who had been waiting for a long time.
The film is based on one of the most famous unsolved murder cases in China. Taking place in a bustling alleyway during the Japanese occupation of Shanghai in the 1940s, the film centers on a wife charged with the bloody dismemberment of her husband.
The heroine of the film, Zhang Ziyi, is one of the Chinese actresses who attracted the most attention at the Cannes International Film Festival.
Multiple of her films like "House of Flying Daggers" by director Zhang Yimou, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" by director Ang Lee, and film "2046" by director Wong Kar-wai, had been shortlisted for various sections of the film festival, and she has served as a judge at Cannes four times.
The film "Gou Zhen", or "Black Dog" directed by Guan Hu took top prize in the category Un Certain Regard at Cannes.
After the Chinese film "Luxury Car" won the honor in 2006, this is the first time for another Chinese film to win this prize. The film has been scheduled to be released in China on June 15.
