China's Ministry of Commerce stands ready to work closely with the economic and trade departments of Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) to implement the consensus reached at the 13th China-Japan-ROK Trilateral Economic and Trade Ministers' Meeting and to deepen practical cooperation across all economic and trade areas, a ministry spokesman said Thursday in Beijing.
Held in Seoul on Sunday, the trilateral meeting was co-chaired by Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, ROK's Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Duk-geun, and Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yoji Muto.
A joint statement was released after the meeting, emphasizing the need for deeper, practical cooperation in areas such as digital economy and supply chains. "Amid the rising unilateralism and protectionism, the reconvening of the meeting after a five-year hiatus demonstrates the three countries' firm commitment to strengthening economic and trade cooperation and promoting regional economic development in the face of growing global economic instability and uncertainty," said He Yadong, the spokesman.
"The economic and trade departments of China, Japan and ROK engaged in in-depth discussions on various topics, including the trilateral free trade agreement negotiations, supply chains, export controls, digital and green economies, business environments, and local cooperation. The economic and trade departments of the three countries also agreed to collaborate under regional and multilateral frameworks, such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)," continued the spokesman.
"Going forward, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce will collaborate closely with the economic and trade departments of Japan and the ROK to ensure the effective implementation of the meeting's consensus, foster deeper and more substantial cooperation across various economic and trade sectors, and jointly tackle emerging global economic challenges, injecting fresh momentum into regional and global economic development," He concluded.
