Flag-raising ceremonies were held by Hong Kong-based central government departments on Monday to celebrate the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR, started their ceremonies at 07:00, respectively.

At the ceremony, attendees stood in lines and sang the national anthem while watching the five-star red flag being raised on its mast.

On July 1, 1997, China's sovereignty over Hong Kong was restored, ending over 100 years of its separation from the motherland and heralding a new era of development for the region.
