The traffic flow on the just-opened Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link exceeded 125,000 vehicles as of at 15:00 on Monday, consistently high since its opening exactly one day earlier on June 30, with sightseeing vehicles contributing to the traffic significantly.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is a core transportation hub project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area city cluster comprising the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao as well as nine cities in neighboring Guangdong Province. It consists of one underwater tunnel, two bridges and two artificial islands across the Lingding Ocean on the Pearl River Estuary leading to the South China Sea, making it one of the most challenging cross-sea cluster projects in the world.

As of 07:00 on Monday, traffic on the link reached 76,000 vehicles, peaking at 8,000 vehicles per hour.

To ensure smooth traffic and safety, the traffic police departments in cities of Shenzhen and Zhongshan have intensified efforts to manage and control traffic flow at the entrances and channels.

"We have mobilized over 200 staff members from firefighting, traffic police, road administration, road rescue, and monitoring departments, along with over 50 special vehicles. We are fully prepared for possible emergency rescue and traffic facilitation," said Chen Weile, construction commander of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link project.
