Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with visiting President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Jose Ramos-Horta in Beijing on Sunday.

Li said China and Timor-Leste have always understood and supported each other, continuously deepened political mutual trust and achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation since the two countries established diplomatic relationship 22 years ago.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will put forward new strategies for developing bilateral relations during the meeting between the two heads of state, Li said.

China is ready to work with Timor-Leste to carry forward traditional friendship, further synergize development strategies, strengthen cooperation on infrastructure and connectivity within the framework of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, fishery, poverty reduction, tourism and sub-national affairs to contribute to regional peace, stability, development and prosperity, Li said.

Ramos-Horta said that Timor-Leste firmly adheres to the one-China principle, takes an active part in the Belt and Road cooperation, and hopes to deepen cooperation in agriculture, water conservancy and other fields with China to improve and upgrade bilateral relations.

Super typhoon Yagi that swept through Vietnam's northern mountainous localities over the weekend killed at least 21 people and injured 229 others, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Sunday evening.

The fatalities include five from the coastal province of Quang Ninh, two from Hai Phong city, one from Hai Duong, one from capital Hanoi, four from Hoa Binh, one from Yen Bai, one from Lang Son and six from Lao Cai.

Natural disasters, mainly floods and landslides, left 147 people dead and missing, and injured 104 others in Vietnam in the first eight months of this year, according to the country's General Statistics Office.

In the aftermath of Yagi, over 2,800 fallen trees disrupted traffic on the streets of Hanoi.

According to local weather report, the city is expected to see more rain in the coming days, adding to the challenge of its clean-up work.
