Central China airport plays catalytic role in forging global trade linkage

While China is fortifying its position as a key global trade hub, the Ezhou Huahu International Airport in central China's Hubei Province, has added luster to the unremitting pursuit by making high-quality air cargo transportation, featuring high time-cost efficiency, sophisticated service and ubiquitous global linkage.

As a specialized cargo center with a strategic location and a long-standing national transportation hub, the airport is Asia's first and the world's fourth dedicated cargo airport, thriving since its launch in 2022.

The airport has transformed China's logistics network by establishing over fifty domestic cargo routes and 26 international routes, creating a network that spans Asia and connects to Europe and the Americas.

In the control tower of the airport, which operates 24/7, staff were busy managing freight flights from over 20 international destinations. These flights bring imported products like lobsters, durians, and salmon into China while efficiently dispatching high-quality Chinese-made goods to overseas markets.

"At present, the imported goods handled by our cargo sorting center are mainly fresh products, such as durian and seafood from Southeast Asia, and lobsters from North America," said Yang Weimin, chairman of Ezhou Airport Cargo Corporation.

As night falls, the airport remains bustling. Some flights carry express delivery packages from across China, which are sorted and sent to logistics centers in different provinces. This dramatically cuts domestic delivery times, allowing packages to travel from southern to northern China in as little as one day.

Other flights arrive from overseas. At 02:00, a plane from South Korea touched down, unloading goods while simultaneously loading Chinese-made products onto the vessel. The exports include electronic devices, mechanical products, and fast-moving consumer goods for shipment to North America.

As a key transit hub, the airport helps businesses to reduce transportation costs and improve efficiency, driving greater global consumer demand.

"Ezhou Huahu International Airport has rapidly built a domestic cargo network and helped to integrate China's civil aviation with global trade routes," said Jiang Wenfu, an on-duty supervisor of the control room at Huahu Airport Air Traffic Control Service Company.

By linking China's manufacturing base with international markets, Ezhou Huahu International Airport is making the global flow of goods more efficient.

The collaboration underscores China's commitment to advancing global commerce and bringing diverse products to the world, while speeding up access to international goods for Chinese consumers.

Prolonged conflict deals heavy blow to Sudan's oil industry

2024-09-30 15:29 Last Updated At:15:37

The prolonged conflict in Sudan has dealt a severe blow to the country's oil industry, resulting in the closure of some refineries and widespread shortages of gas and diesel in many areas.

Oil production in Sudan has significantly declined since the conflicts broke out over a year ago with the destruction of oil refinery facilities and a brain drain in the sector as many professionals seek employment outside of the country.

"Part of the losses, in addition to the facilities and the production and the data, the people, the executive people that are accumulating experience for the technical and administration people that are working in oil and gas, obviously, and downstream and midstream -- we may lose most of them, because most of them now move outside Sudan, and they look for jobs outside," said Ayman Abu Al-Goukh, a Sudanese oil industry expert.

Gas and diesel shortages that began in Sudan in the second half of last year have led to the closure of many gas stations and a threefold increase in prices.

The shortages have also resulted in power outages across the country, with a majority of areas now facing power cuts lasting several hours each day.
