China Eastern Airlines has successfully completed the engine replacement for the world's first delivered C919 aircraft, addressing the maintenance capacity gap for the country's homegrown narrow-body airliner.

The maintenance team completed 60 work order items and over 10 non-routine tasks in order to ensure the quality of the operation. The accomplishment makes it the first airline in the world capable of maintaining and replacing parts for the C919.

"We have completed our first engine replacement, which will ensure the sustainable operation of the C919 aircraft in China Eastern Airlines in the future and enhance its performance," said Dong Haoyang, manager of the C919 engine replacement project at China Eastern Xibei Airlines.

China Eastern Airlines, the launch customer for the C919, has reported consistent operational performance with seven C919 aircraft since the jetliner was put into service on May 28, 2023.
