The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip had risen to 43,259, the Gaza-based health authorities said in a statement on Friday.
In the past 24 hours, the Israeli military operations in Gaza killed 55 people and wounded 186 others, bringing the total number of injuries to 101,641 since the current round of the Palestine-Israel conflict broke out in early October 2023, according to the statement.
Palestinian media reported that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continued their strikes on multiple locations in the besieged enclave from the early hours into the evening of Thursday, including Beit Lahia, Gaza City and Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza and Al-Maghazi and Nuseirat refugee camps in central Gaza, causing casualties.
The Palestinian authorities said that on Thursday evening, the IDF’s bombardments of homes in the new refugee camp north of Nuseirat caused nine deaths and injured dozens of people, while the Israeli attacks killed two in Al-Zawaida in central Gaza and four in Ash-Shanti in northwest Gaza.
Israel has not made comments on the strikes.
The IDF also bombarded Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza on Thursday, resulting in a number of casualties, including children, the Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN secretary-general, said at the daily press briefing at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Thursday that the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that the Israeli attacks on the hospital resulted in the loss of medical supplies that had been delivered just a few days earlier.
Hospitals are under assault and rescue teams are unable to work due to the arrests of personnel and the confiscation of essential equipment, including ambulances and a fire truck, Dujarric said.
The World Health Organization condemned the strikes targeting Kamal Adwan Hospital, saying that the attack had left the hospital almost unfunctioning and put patients' lives at grave risk. The agency called on everyone to protect hospitals and fully comply with international humanitarian law.
