Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Tuesday called on all parties to expand opening-up and enhance practical cooperation so as to better achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.
Li made the remarks when delivering a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum in Shanghai.
Challenged by a rising backlash against globalization and mounting unilateralism and protectionism, the cause of global peace and development is facing increasing uncertainties and instabilities, said Li.
Under such circumstance, it is all the more important for all parties to continue to uphold, expand and improve opening-up, said Li.
He said, only in this way can all parties involved promote lasting peace, stability, development and prosperity.
"From a global perspective, many problems that should not have been problems have appeared from time to time since we adopted the opening-up policy, especially various kinds of dishonest behaviors which have destroyed rules and caused a broken window effect. Only if all parties stay committed to openness and take pragmatic actions, can we work together to create a good open and cooperative environment. Only then can openness truly become a universal consensus and turn into people's consciousness," said Li.
"We should promote opening-up by upholding the principle of mutually beneficial cooperation and maintaining the mindset of mutual achievement, and continue to open up new space for development by making our markets more closely connected and resources complementary. Now, a new round of global technological revolution and industrial transformation is advancing in depth, spawning a large number of new frontiers for economic growth. We should promote opening-up in a way that is more conducive to innovation and cooperation. Efforts should be made to break down the barriers that restrict the global flow and market-oriented allocation of innovation factors. We should promote all countries to better leverage their comparative advantages and jointly cultivate and expand new economic drivers," said Li.
Li also stressed that China, an active advocate and practitioner of multilateralism, firmly upholds the multilateral trading system with the WTO at the core, and support developing countries in better sharing the dividends of globalization.
He said China is willing to continue to work closely with all parties to coordinate and cooperate in international economic organizations, take the lead in exploring and implementing the outcomes of negotiations in areas such as the WTO's Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement and the E-Commerce Agreement, contribute more to promoting global development and improving human well-being.
Running from November 5 to 10, the 7th CIIE has attracted 3,496 exhibitors from 129 countries and regions. It also sets a new record with 297 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry leaders attending the event.
More than 400 new products, new technologies and new services are set to be unveiled during the expo, which experts believe is a strong indication of global companies' confidence in the Chinese market and their commitment to further development in China despite a sluggish global economic recovery.
