The International Media Center for APEC Peru 2024 officially opened on Tuesday, welcoming journalists, photographers, and broadcast teams from around the world to cover the 31st APEC leaders' gathering and other key events set to take place this week in the Peruvian capital Lima.
Under the overarching theme of "Empower. Include. Grow," this year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Week will bring leaders of its 21 member economies together to set the agenda for the Asia-Pacific region, with a major focus on inclusive economic cooperation.
Located within Peru's Ministry of Culture building, the APEC media center will be open round-the-clock for the full duration of the event to support media professionals covering the high-profile gathering. On the first floor, local news agencies have already set up studios and have begun recording programs as part of their extensive coverage.
Peru's Ministry of Culture has also dedicated an open-air area to showcase the country's characteristic cultural heritage, featuring traditional music, dances, and local delicacies for international guests to sample.
This marks Peru's third time hosting the APEC meeting, and organizers are confident they are well prepared to stage another successful edition of the event.
"We're very happy to have it here in Peru for the third time. We've made APEC before in 2008, then 2016 and now 2024, and we're looking forward to the leader's meeting," said Carlos Chavez Tafur, president of the APEC Peru 2024 Presidency working group.
Formally established in 1989, APEC has become the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment across the Asia-Pacific region. It currently has 21 member economies, including the United States and China, the two largest economies in the world.
