Chinese President Xi Jinping said he is ready to work with the Australian side to build a more mature, stable, and fruitful comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Australia.
Xi made the remarks when meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on the sidelines of the 19th G20 summit.
"Last November, we had sound and in-depth talks in Beijing on strategic, overarching and fundamental issues concerning the long-term development of China-Australia relations. Over the past year, the two countries have maintained close communication at all levels, actively promoted the implementation of the important consensus we reached, and made positive progress," Xi said.
"Ten years ago today, I was on a state visit to Australia, during which the two sides unanimously decided to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership. Over the past decade, China-Australia relations have made some progress, but also experienced some twists and turns, which have given us some perspectives. Currently, China-Australia relations have achieved a turnaround and are maintaining a positive momentum of development, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both countries. This is the result of the two sides working together in the same direction, which is worth cherishing. I am ready to work with you to build a more mature, stable, and fruitful comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Australia and inject more stability and certainty into the region and the world at large," Xi said.
Xi arrived in Brazil on Sunday to attend the summit scheduled for Monday and Tuesday and pay a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Created in 1999, the G20 is a main forum for international cooperation on financial and economic issues and comprises 19 countries plus the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU).
