A meeting was held on Wednesday in Zunyi City of southwest China's Guizhou Province to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the 1935 Zunyi Conference, a crucial turning point in the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the event.
The meeting pointed out that the Zunyi Conference marked a great turning point in the history of the CPC, and called on Party members to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on summarizing and applying the historical experience of the Zunyi Conference, so as to draw wisdom and strength from the Party's history of struggle.
The meeting emphasized that in order to inherit and carry forward the spirit of the Zunyi Conference on the new journey, efforts should be made to adapt Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, and enhance cohesion and forge the Party’s soul with Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
The CPC should always stay on its own path with self-reliance, and have the confidence and determination to make progress in building a great country into a powerful country and advancing national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization, according to the meeting.
It was also pointed out at the event that the CPC should vigorously carry forward the revolutionary tradition of having the courage to fight and the fortitude to win, and enhance the inner strength to overcome difficulties and move forward courageously.
The commemorative meeting was organized by the CPC Publicity Department, the Institute of Party History and Literature, the Central Military Commission's Political Work Department, and the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee. About 1,000 people attended the meeting, including CPC officials, soldiers of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and people from all walks of life.
The Zunyi Conference, held in January 1935, solved the most pressing military and organizational problems of the CPC at that time, put an end to the rule of left-leaning dogmatism within the Party, and established the leadership of Mao Zedong (1893-1976) in the CPC Central Committee and its military -- the Chinese Red Army.

Cultural products and electronics top the list of popular items on e-commerce platforms during a month-long online shopping event for festive goods leading up to the Spring Festival.
The event, initiated by the Ministry of Commerce and organized under the guidance of several government departments and the China Consumers Association, will run from Jan 7 to Feb 5.
According to the ministry, this event marks the first nationwide online sales promotion following the inscription of the "Spring Festival, social practices of the Chinese people in celebration of traditional new year" on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2024.
The event aims to meet people's consumption needs during the festive season, promote traditional Chinese culture and boost e-commerce sales.
On Taobao and Tmall, platforms under China's e-commerce giant Alibaba, searches for products featuring distinctive elements of traditional Chinese culture have surged in popularity as the festival approaches.
"Apart from food, there's a heavy focus on tradition and culture this year," said Lao Guoling, director of the e-commerce research institute at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
He also noted that young people are bringing a more fashionable touch to the traditional festive atmosphere.
"The younger generation emphasizes emotional value, opting for new interpretations of traditions. For example, young people might buy festive toys, such as a LEGO kumquat tree, instead of an actual one," Lao said.
Electrical products are also gaining popularity among consumers' purchases for the Spring Festival.
According to a survey conducted by the research institute of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com, while food and beverages continue to be the top choices for out-of-town workers to bring home, nearly half of them are also opting for appliances such as televisions and washing machines.
Lao stated that government subsidies are playing a crucial role in driving consumption of electrical products.
"This year's subsidized items include smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. This can encourage people to upgrade their own devices or buy these smaller products as gifts," she said.
