The inaugural high-level dialog on climate change and green transition between China and Germany was held in Beijing on Saturday, achieving five important cooperation outcomes.

Zheng Shanjie, chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's top economic planner, and Robert Habeck, German Vice Chancellor and Economics Minister, attended the dialog.

The two sides agreed to initiate subnational cooperation on green transformation, with the NDRC and Germany's Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) partnering to support exchanges and cooperation between Jiangsu Province and German state of Baden-Wurttemberg, as well as between Sichuan Province and North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.

The two institutions formulated a 2024 work plan for the bilateral working group on energy efficiency.

The NDRC and Germany's Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection outlined key upcoming events for the implementation of the China-Germany action plan for dialog on circular economy and resource efficiency.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the BMWK decided to establish a working group on industrial carbon reduction.

The National Energy Conservation Center and German Agency for International Cooperation will carry out cooperation on energy efficiency demonstration projects in key sectors.

The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence has withstood the test of international vicissitudes over the past 70 years, becoming more appealing rather than obsolete, said Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday.

President Xi made the remarks as he delivered a speech at a conference marking the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence on Friday in Beijing.

"The baton of history is passed from generation to generation, and the cause of human progress moves forward from one era to another as mankind seek answers to the questions of the times. Seventy years ago, our forefathers, who experienced the scourge of hot wars and the confrontation of the Cold War, concluded that the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence were the crucial way to safeguard peace and sovereignty. This answer has withstood the test of international vicissitudes, and has become more appealing rather than obsolete," Xi said.

Initially put forth by then Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai seven decades ago, the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence are "mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence."

Over the past seven decades, they have been widely accepted and recognized by countries across the world and have become basic norms governing international relations and fundamental principles of international law.
