CGTN stringers, including international professionals and students living in China, have praised the nation's development achievements, citing profound changes they have witnessed over the years.

Their reflections have echoed the sentiments shared by Chinese President Xi Jinping in his 2025 New Year address delivered on Tuesday, the New Year's eve.

In his speech, Xi highlighted China's efforts in responding to domestic and global challenges, implementing policies for high-quality development, and achieving notable progress in areas such as GDP growth, grain output, coordinated development, and green, low-carbon transformation.

Both Thomas, a Dutch vlogger, and Piotr, a content creator from Poland, lauded China's technological advancements, particularly in 5G telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and clean energy technologies.

"When I think of China's development over the last couple of years, there are actually multiple aspects that come to mind. First of all, China's technological advancement. China has become a global leader in terms of 5G telecommunications and artificial intelligence. Also, the country's digital transformation really is an impressive result of this technological development," said Thomas.

"From my own experience living here in Shenzhen, I can tell you that this city is a testament to what ambitious clean energy goals can achieve. In this city, all buses and all taxis have gone electric, this helped to dramatically reduce pollution and showcase a future where sustainability and technology go hand in hand. But that's not all, China is also pushing the boundaries in clean energy technologies, from solar panels to wind turbines, they are leading a change towards greener future and this aligns perfectly with global efforts to decrease the carbon footprint and embrace eco-living," Piotr said.

Adel, a Kyrgyz student at Tsinghua University, and Zain Tariq, an IT professional, shared their perspectives on China's development achievements that have delivered tangible benefits to its people.

"China is always looking ahead to plan the next stage of reform, since the economy and technologies are developing and new challenges and changes emerge in the world. The qualitative development of the Chinese economy is admirable, the Chinese miracle became possible because of the wise strategic planning of the country's economy development," Adel said.

"The Chinese government is working very hard to improve the livelihoods of people within China. The senior citizens in China at the moment, they have very good medical support, which has helped a lot of senior citizens to be elevated from the poverty," said Zain Tariq.

Festive lanterns in hot demand as Chinese New Year nears

2025-01-05 06:06 Last Updated At:06:47

The tradition of appreciating beautiful lanterns during Spring Festival celebrations has kept China's lantern workshops busy in the last lunar month in the run-up to the Year of the Snake.

In Zhangzhou City of east China's Fujian Province, a special lantern show was staged on Friday night.

A 100-meter-long golden snake-shaped boat made with 2,025 lanterns sailed on the river, stopping residents and tourists passing by to watch and pray.

Meanwhile, a flyboard rider in gorgeous clothing presented a fire pot performance, a national-level intangible cultural heritage, illuminating the river with sparks.

"The fire pot performance and the lantern show, one dynamic and the other static, are particularly charming in this environment," said Zheng Chenghong, a tourist.

"I'm very excited and happy to watch this performance combining water jet pack and fire pot," said Chen Jinwei, a local resident.

In Hejin City of north China's Shanxi Province, more than 20 craftspeople at a cultural center are busy making rotating lanterns, a national-level intangible cultural heritage.

As the process is very complicated, it usually takes 10 craftspeople a day to make one lantern.

"This is a new work we've created this year. It's called 'all flowers in full bloom.' Despite the small size, the lantern is very hard to make, as it involves a dozen of processes. The papercut fish on the lantern symbolizes a wish for abundance, and the lantern is very beautiful when it whirls," said Li Erpeng, an inheritor of the craftsmanship.

In Taigu District, Jinzhong City of Shanxi, a workshop has used 3D printing technology in lantern production, cutting down on production time from more than 10 days to just one or two days.

The Spring Festival, the most important traditional festival in China, will fall on Jan 29. The year 2025 will mark the Year of the Snake, the sixth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.
